QPG first launched in April 2016 as QPG Football Academy, created by two of the youngest Queen’s Park Community Councillors, and along with the support of a small community QPCC grant, we were able to build exciting and worthwhile partnerships with Active Westminster and Everyone Active, whilst training up local residents as coaches with Queen’s Park Rangers FC and the London FA cohort. A lot has changed since our inception, we now operate as two community groups, led by four of the very best coaches.
The following year saw an expansion into local schools and our brilliant partnership with Wilberforce Primary School and Queen’s Park Community Council led to an improved Ofsted rating of a good with outstanding rating and numerous daily activities ranging from sports to important life skills. The launch of the hub coincided with the tragic loss of life at the Grenfell Tower Fire, our volunteers continued to support the community via weekly care-packs in partnership with the Felix Project over the next five years, more recently supporting residents through the Covid-19 pandemic and the on-going cost of living crisis, all while continuing to strengthen our partnerships with Knight Frank, Wilmott Dixon, The Parlour Restaurant, Planet Organic and QP Community Council.
2018 saw the launch of our holiday clubs, including the very popular Easter and Summer Camps, which were supported by our new accreditations with the Mayor of London, Active Westminster, Everyone Active and kindly funded by the trustees at the WCC Young Westminster Foundation. We also work very closely with the events team and Hammersmith Town Hall and the White City Estate.
The global pandemic saw our cohort of volunteers triple in size, and we were extremely lucky to have such a wonderful team of delivery drivers, food packers, chefs, businesses and tutors to ensure our services could continue to be delivered socially distanced.
In 2022 QPG continued to see its memberships expand weekly, working closely with a number of schools in both Westminster and Kensington and Chelsea, along with sporting venues across the boroughs to ensure the delivery of varied weekly free sporting activities. Our clubs are open to all residents who have children aged 5 years plus. We were proud to take part in a number of football tournaments across Westminster and Kensington and Chelsea Council and win the Westway Westminster cup in July.
We are extremely grateful for the continued support as we aim to ensure that free sports can continue to be accessed by all children in Queen’s Park regardless of skill, level, or background. No child and family will be left out as we all continue to grow and develop our sporting and coaching skills. We are happy to be working with a range of partners to create even more new activities.
The progress of QPG Clubs can also be followed on Facebook, Twitter & Instagram under @QPGclubs, or you can visit the official website - www.qpgclubs.com. You can follow the progress of QPG Football Academy CIC on their Instagram using @QPGfootball.
If you would like to volunteer with QPG and believe you have what it takes to run exciting and challenging activities, including football, basketball, and tennis, and are able to provide legal ID for a required DBS police check, then email the designated safeguarding lead, as of April 2023, Ms Kelly Louise Sinclair on - dsl@qpgclubs.com to discuss how you too can get started.
QPG Sports Club now operates daily, Monday to Friday, after-school term times and holidays and is delivered in partnership with Everyone Active and Active Westminster. The daily sports clubs are run by Head Coaches Connor Eldrett and Daequan Joseph.
QPG Football is run as a separate organisation and is operational on the weekends. Sessions are led by head coaches Greg and Luke, along with assistant coaches from QPR. These sessions are sponsored by Planet Organic UK and Winkworth Estate Agents.
On the 30th May 2023 QPG Clubs Management Board met for the first time since its formation and nominated their first ever chairwoman for the following year and reassigned officer roles including health and safety and our new digital marketing team.
As of September 2023 we are working with Winkworth Estate Agents and Planet Organic in Kensal Rise and Queen's Park to plan activities this Autumn. We are working hard to deliver a full week of free sports for children and young people in North Kensington.
